Information only, not advice

Everything published on Before It Happens is general information about how things work in the United Kingdom. It is not personal financial advice, legal advice, tax advice or medical advice, and it does not take account of your circumstances. Do not act on a guide alone where money, health or your family's security is at stake — take advice from someone qualified and regulated to give it.

Our regulatory position

Before It Happens is not an insurer, an insurance broker, a solicitor or a financial adviser, and is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. We do not arrange, advise on, or sell insurance. If you request quotes, we introduce you to one selected FCA-authorised protection insurance broker, and we may be paid for that introduction. That broker is solely responsible for any regulated advice, for the quotes it presents and for the policy you buy. You can check any firm's permissions on the Financial Services Register.

Accuracy and change

We take care to be accurate and to cite our sources, but UK rates, thresholds, benefit rules and insurer terms change frequently — most commonly each April. Figures are correct as at the date shown on the page. We give no warranty that any page is current, complete or free from error, and we may change or remove content at any time. Always check the current position with the relevant official source or with the insurer's own documents before making a decision.

No guarantee of cover or payout

Nothing on this site is an offer of insurance. Acceptance, price, exclusions and the outcome of any claim are matters for the insurer, based on your health, your history and the policy wording. We never promise that you will be accepted or that a claim will be paid.

Quote enquiries

By submitting the quote form you confirm that the details you give are your own and are accurate, that you are 18 or over and resident in the United Kingdom, and that you consent to your enquiry being passed to the broker named in the consent wording. Submitting the form places you under no obligation to buy anything. How we handle your data is set out in our privacy notice.

Third-party links

We link to official and charitable sources because they are useful. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy or availability.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law we exclude liability for any loss arising from reliance on information published here, and for any loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, this site. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

You may not republish it commercially or use it to train a model or build a competing dataset without our written permission. Statistics reproduced from public bodies remain subject to their own terms, most often the Open Government Licence.
